Counseling Services
Pastoral counseling is a special form of psychotherapy which draws on spiritual resources as well as psychological understanding for healing and growth. Because pastoral counselors are mental health professionals with advanced theological training, they are particularly well-equipped to meet the needs of the majority of Americans who recognize the link between mental health and personal/spiritual values.
We do not try to convert clients to any particular faith. With many clients the subject of faith does not come up at all. However, we do believe that in order for people to heal, they must understand what they value in their lives. Our values orientation is one way that our work is different from the work of some other therapists.
We offer assistance in a wide range of issues, including (but not limited to):
| Adolescents | Interfaith marriage |
| Anger management | Leadership |
| Anxiety | Loss & grieving |
| Blended families(stepfamilies) | Organizations in struggle |
| Career & workplace issues | Parenting |
| Chronic illness | Premarital counseling |
| Chronic pain | Psychological assessment |
| Couples counseling | Recovery from sexual abuse |
| Depression | Spiritual growth/faith development |
| Divorce recovery | Substance abuse assessment & recovery follow-up treatment |
| Forgiveness | Treatment of post traumatic stress disorder |
Presbyterian Samaritan offers a specialized counseling service in addition to traditional pastoral psychotherapy. PREPARE/ENRICH is a program based on a set of five inventories that examine major relationship issues a couple may experience. PREPARE is used for pre-marital counseling . The inventories must be administered by a trained PREPARE/ENRICH counselor and include 2-6 feedback sessions in which the counselor facilitates discussion between the couple based on their inventory results. The inventory is taken on-line.
Pastoral psychotherapists who are available to do the above are Kent Tilley, Susan Lewis, Cary Collins, Rachel Matthews, Susan Roddey and Rick Carter. (Insurance does not cover this service.) For more information contact us at info@presbyteriansamaritan.org.
